The Chicky House Club
These are photos of the chicken tractor I designed and husband Bob built.  I call it the Chicky House Club because of my Disney background and my wild, sensational sense of humor.

So what, you ask, is a chicken tractor?

A chicken tractor is a coop and a pen on wheels.  In this case the pen is detachable.  In fact, must be detached to move.  Coop/pen on wheels is so one can move it around the yard much like pasture rotation and the grass can heal sufficiently before that spot is used again.  Bugs eaten along the way.  This was why we acquired the chickens in the first place, Bob thought they'd make a great, natural pesticide.  Of course he regrets it now because they are pets.  Not at all what he had in mind.

In our case, the rotation worked for the first summer.  Then during late fall and winter the grass, of course, was no longer healing.  So when spring arrived we moved the tractor and all, just as you see it, out to the "orchard" and fenced it in.  Now they have a larger roaming area as well as the coop and attached pen, door open for shelter against the seasonal elements.  They aren't really smart enough to come in out of the rain but if you offer them the shelter they are very low maintenance and pay for themselves with egg production.
Or for even MORE chickens
